New National Tracker Maps Youth Sports & Physical Activity Legislation Across State and Federal Level

We’re excited to share a new tool developed by The Sports Institute (UW Medicine), in partnership with the University of Washington Center for Leadership in Athletics (UWCLA) and the King County Play Equity Coalition (KCPEC), with additional contributions from LiFEsports at The Ohio State University and the Susan Crown Exchange.

The Youth Sports & Physical Activity Legislation Tracker is an educational resource that maps legislation related to youth sports and physical activity at both the state and federal levels.

With 700+ bills compiled (and growing!), the tracker provides a clear, consolidated view of legislation connected to:

  • Safety: injury prevention, mental health, concussion, abuse prevention

  • Training Requirements: school sport and non-school sport coaches

  • Accountability: standards, oversight, and reporting requirements

This tool is designed for coaches, educators, program leaders, researchers, policymakers, funders, students, journalists, and anyone seeking an accessible way to understand what’s moving, where, and how it may shape the youth sports ecosystem.

The legislative landscape is evolving rapidly. This tracker brings clarity and transparency to that landscape, helping the field make informed decisions, compare approaches across states, and identify opportunities to strengthen experiences for young people.
